Durable Medical

A friend of mine always says that Estate Sales are just fancy garage sales and he could not be farther from the truth. Good estate sale companies have many contacts and experience in selling the many possessions that seniors collect throughout the years. When I interview estate sale contacts I am always amazed on the items they see as "valuable" and some items I would see as "high worth" have little if any value.

"We can't believe how much we received from the estate sale profits. We paid for Mom & Dad's move to the senior living facility and added some $ to their savings which is great and the estate sale comapany did the work"

Durable Medical Overview

Durable Medical Equipment Stores sell the wheel chairs, walkers, etc. They tend to be very knowledgeable and they almost always will have what you need or know where you can get it.

Wheelchairs

  • There are a numerous types and brands of wheelchairs nowadays:  standard, transport, lightweight, ultra-lightweight, heavy duty, pool, sport, tilt, recliner, and shower chairs. You can spend under a $100 or in the thousands and it really depends on your needs.

Walkers

  • Most of us remember the old school walkers that were all metal and people put tennis balls on the bottom to help them move around. Walkers have come along way and can be amazing and a huge help. You will be impressed on how well they steer, break and even have storage (my father-in law even has a cup holder for my wife latte’s). Walker’s can cost anywhere between $30 to $3,000.

Motorized Scooters

  • You see these advertised on late night television and they cost between $750 to $5,000. Medicare B (80%) can provide some reimbursement but must be doctor approved.

Action Steps: Walkers can prevent falls and broken hips but not every senior will endorse these life saving helpers. You might need to let them know how important their safety is to you.
